I am a farmer in southwest Iowa, operating a 400 head ewe flock, as well as a row crop operation. I was on the livestock judging team at Northwest Missouri State University in 1997. Since that time I have judged county fairs and jackpot shows in Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska. I coached the local FFA judging team for 2 years, and since 2000 I have served as the sheep superintendent for the Page County Fair. I am also a member of the Pipestone Lamb and Wool Program.
I feel that my background in the commercial sheep industry, combined with my training and experience raising and judging club lambs makes me uniquely qualified as a sheep judge. I look for real world performance and carcass quality to go along with show ring style and presence in market lambs. In breeding stock, I always keep in mind that these animals are destined to go back to the farm and are expected to produce at a high level for their owner for more than just a year or two.
I truly enjoy evaluating livestock and working with youth. I alway make a point to explain to each exhibitor why he or she did not place higher in the class, and what they can do in the future to improve their project. I also enjoy judging showmanship.
Thank you for taking the time to view my profile. I look forward to the opportunity to judge your sheep show in the future.
