BiographyJarold Callahan was born on a farm and ranch in Welch, Oklahoma and graduated from Welch High School. He was one of the top ten students in the College of Agriculture at Oklahoma State University.
Upon graduation he was an instructor at NEO A&M and while at NEO he received his Master Degree in Agriculture from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. In 1981 he joined the faculty at Oklahoma State University and was an Assistant Professor in the Animal Science Department where he taught Purebred Beef Production, Livestock Selection, and was in charge of the Purebred Beef Herds and coached the Livestock Judging Teams.
In 1991 Jarold became the Executive Vice President of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association and in 1996 he joined Express Ranches initially as Chief Operations Officer and presently as President of Express Ranches.
Jarold started in the Angus business as a partner in J&T Angus in 1979 in Miami, Oklahoma with the purchase of the Bomford Angus herd and has been active in the angus breed ever-since. Jarold and his wife Jennifer own Callahan Cattle Company that is comprised of approximately 100 Angus cows and they annually purchase approximately 2000 head of steer and heifers that they send to the feed yard.
Under Jarold's leadership Express Ranches has emphasized the use of Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR) along with ultrasound data provided by the National Centralized Ultrasound Laboratory and Technology Center (The Cup Lab) to improve both herd performance and carcass quality for their customers. Jarold has also developed numerous programs that are designed to add value to their customers' products including an Express Ranches Customer Appreciation Sale and a Select Feeder Calf Sale where Express Ranches' bull customers can merchandise progeny from Express bulls.
Jarold has also been elected to represent fellow Angus Breeders as a member of the American Angus Association Board of Directors and is currently serving the position as Treasurer of that Organization.
Jarold has a strong belief in maintaining young people's involvement in the cattle business and supports a great many youth activities and junior shows as continued support to the Express Ranches Scholarship Program for their junior customers.
