BiographyDan Hoge was raised on a purebred Duroc hog and Hereford cattle farm in Walnot, Illinois. The family later added Dorset sheep to their operation. Dan graduated from the University of Illinois with a B>
s. in Animal Science in 1966. He received his M.S. from the same institution in 1968. From 1968 until 1970, Dan ws employed at the University of Illinois Cooperative Extention Service in Henry County. From 1970 to the present, he has been a professor at Black Hawk College in Kewanee, Illinois, where he teaches courses in introductory Animal Science, Beef Science, and Animal Health. In addition, Dan places and supervises students in livestock-related intern programs, and co-coaches the livestock judging team. Dan's livestock teams have become legendary among stock show enthusiast. Year after year his students are among the top in national competion. Dan Hoge is no stranger to Texas exhibitors. His association with TJLA goes back to 1985, when he judged the Belt Buckle steer show in Austin, Texas. Dan has judged major livestock shows throughout the United States and has served as both the steer and swine show judge at both the Houston Livestock Show and the San Antonio Livestock Show. Dan is married to Deanna, and they have two children, Kathy and Mark. He is interessted in all facets of the livestock industry, and is paarticularly interested in youth livestock shows. Dan's hobbies include raising and exhibiting livestock as a family activity, and judging livestock shows.
