BiographyJoe Behrens of Voca grew up in Brownwood, Texas. His mom was a school teacher and his dad was a vocational agriculture teacher who later became the State Swine Specialist for TAMU. Joe started raising and showing hogs when he was was nine years old. He also showed cattle and lambs. After a distinguished career as a junior exhibitor, Joe won a Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo scholarship which he used to attend Texas A&M . He was member of the TAMU Livestock Judging team and of the 1973 TAMU National Champion Meats Judging team which has the honor of being the most successful meats judging team in the history of the school. They were undefeated in nine contests and Joe was the high individual at the International Contest.
After graduation Joe went home to ranch. He raises Durocs, Yorks, Hamps, Crosses and show cattle. His operation has produced champions across the nation, including numerous breed champions at the Texas major shows. He is married to Jacque, a school teacher. they have three children, Jenna and Jay and Josh who graduated from TAMU.
EducationB.S. - Texas A&M University. Currently Joe is deeply involved in his club calf & breeding stock operation where he manages a 300 cow herd. His herd has produced champions every year since 1975. Joe is also superintendant of the Star of Texas Steer Show and also of the HOT and State Fair judging contests.
Joe has 38 years of experience judging cattle and swine shows all across the nation and state. Joe always emphasizes soundness and function regardless of what he is judging,
