BiographyPreston R. Farris of Sonora, Texas currently operates Preston's Perspective Agri-Resource Consulting Service. He is a 1972 graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Animal Science. He had a long career as a county extension agent, primarily in Sutton County before retiring in 2003. He has served in the US Army Reserve-980th Engineer Battalion, on the Board of Trustees of the Sonora Independent School District, as a director of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, on the Lillian M Hudspeth Memorial Hospital Board, and as a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Sonora.
Preston has had extensive juding experience with numerous species of livestock. He has judged throughout Texas, in twenty four states, Canada, Mexico and Australia. He has judged the ABGA National Show three times as well as the JABGA and IBGA national shows once each. His honors include 1978 Man of the Year-Martin County Chamber of Commerce, 1989 Distinguished Service Award-National Assn of County Agr. Agents, 1993 Man of the Year in agriculture-Sonora Chamber of Commerce, and 2002 Superior Service Award for County Extension Agent-TCE. He is married to Kay and they have three children, Brian (wife Reyna), Brandon and Shawna and two grandchildren, Raylee and Craddock. Preston's hobbies are hunting, fishing and working with youth in animal agriculture.
